When I Was Baptized

by Imogene Kesler Linford, daughter of Donnie – Julina

One of the most vivid and precious memories I have of Grandpapa was the
day I was baptized, April 11, 1917. I had come from the Tabernacle where
my father had baptized me, to the Beehive House to dry my long hair. I met
Grandpapa in the east entrance hall—between the two large living rooms.
He asked about my wet hair, and when I told him I had just come from being
baptized, he knelt on one knee and held me on the other—as he tenderly
reminded me of the wonderful blessing and privilege I now had of being a
member of the true Church of Jesus Christ. He expressed his love and pride
as he placed a few small candies from his pocket into my cupped hand and
kissed my cheek.

He had the marvelous ability of making every member of his entire family
feel as though he loved him or her the most—but I’m sure he loved me
most!
